Holy shit!
Wow. I made it. It’s 7:39 pm and I made it to my seriously fucken remote little casita. The hosts are adorable, I cannot wait to talk to them further- Michael & Connie. Maybe late 60’s, maybe more. Retired Idahoan firefighter. Breakfast is served at 9 am, I opted for oatmeal & fruit. The casita is freaking adorable. Open upstairs palapa roofed kitchen. Cozy little space with beds, and they even tossed in a wee heater to take the chill off. The bed is soft and I am beat. I actually made a wrong turn on the back roads, which are all dirt, seriously potholed, and shared with longhorn cattle. It was all fun and games till the sun went down, then I started to get a wee bit nervous. I had gone up the mountain quite a bit so I had just enough service to get a text to Michael & Connie, and he ended up meeting me in the last teeny town I came across. Agua caliente. There are dogs laying all about and chickens in the streets and the cattle! It’s like a dream!!!
When I got out of the airport, I had to get a shuttle to get my rental. It’s a tiny Chevy with a stick shift. Some guy at the airport gave me awesome directions out of town, and the landscape was just lovely- huge craggy mountains and this desert landscape, wit saguaro cactus and yellow flowered bushes and HUGE trunked trees. I saw a very colorful bird eating roadkill of a sort I could not identify. I’m guessing dog, because I swear it was a big cat, but I don’t think I’m right about that.
Tomorrow I think I will explore a bit around here, maybe go into Santiago to meet my travel friends for dinner. Their place was apparently really really remote, according to Jade’s text. I am too tired to go anywhere tonight so I glad they bagged on me!!! I managed to stop at a mini Mercado and got 3 gals water, some huevos, fresh made tortillas some fresh queso and cans of tuna. And tea. Should hold me over till Sunday. Zero English in the towns, so I’m getting good practice with my Spanish!
Ok. I have got to rest now. I made it here, don’t have service so I cannot tell m I am okay. Hopefully he won’t worry too much. I warned him.

At my gate!
A series of post midnight texts alerted me to my first flight being first delayed, then cancelled. After a 30 minute callback, the airline rebooked me to catch my connecting flights as usual, so m drove me to Charlotte. It’s a madhouse! Flights all cancelled up and down the coast because of weather. When we left the house, it was 55 and pouring super heavy. Here in Charlotte, it looks clear, so hoping there will be no more glitches. But they are seriously looking for People to bump flights, so let’s see what happens.
I’m super early! Like almost 2 hours before my flight boards. I don’t think I have ever been through security with this much time to spare before! I feel quite relaxed! I suppose I will get a sandwich and water before I board. The lines at all the nearby places are like 30 people deep, so I’m waiting a while.
I haven’t flown much in the past few years, so it’s fun to see how it changes. This was a fun one! Drug sniffing pointer! My heart 🥰
I fucken love dogs man! Can you believe I got all teary-eyed watching this good boi at work? I can.
I also cried hugging m goodbye. 3 weeks is a long time! I miss everyone already. On to adventure!
